103 - Stakeholders are trying to kill you

When I hear stakeholders, I picture a bunch of people with wooden stakes coming at me because they think I am a vampire.

In general business literature refers to this problem as “managing your stakeholders”. Doesn’t sound so fun, does it. When you are a product manager, everyone seems to be or want to be your stakeholder. In fact, in a survey of product managers we recently conducted, managing stakeholders was the least favorite responsibility. We PMs want to do much less of it, and we spend more time doing it than innovating on new products.

Rather than “managing your stakeholders”, how might you convert your stakeholders to join your coven? Okay, in business speak 101, let’s call them “making team champions.”

As a PM you already have the tools to do it. Based on PM tools you already know like user research, persona development and product marketing. In this session we’ll discuss how we might use these tools to assess who is circling around to get you and how to turn them into your team champions. We’ll share interesting experiences and fun stories with each other!
